ABSTRACT
Surface plasmon resonance microscopy is a promising, label-free near-field imaging method that allows the measurement of tiny variations in the refractive index distributions of a sample with high sensitivity. However, the propagating nature of surface plasmon waves severely degrades the quality and resolution of the obtained images. This paper proposes a quality-enhanced approach by frequency-domain filtering under dual azimuthal angles. The method eliminates the comb artifacts by a specifically designed dual-ring filter. In the simulations and experiments, high-fidelity images with almost twice the spatial resolution of the conventional surface plasmon resonance microscopy have been obtained.
